OVPAA, IAO conduct executive session on internationalization
In an effort to promote global opportunities and foster enduring international partnerships, the Council of Deans' Executive Session on Internationalization was held on September 13, 2023, at the Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (CenTrAD) Complex. This gathering, co-hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) and the International Affairs Office (IAO), marked a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing global prospects and cultivating sustainable international ties among academic institutions.
In an effort to promote global opportunities and foster enduring international partnerships, the Council of Deans' Executive Session on Internationalization was held on September 13, 2023, at the Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (CenTrAD) Complex. This gathering, co-hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) and the International Affairs Office (IAO), marked a collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing global prospects and cultivating sustainable international ties among academic institutions.
Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered the opening presentation at 1:20 PM. Her remarks underscored the importance of embracing global opportunities in the continuously evolving landscape of higher education.
Structured into four sessions, the event addressed various aspects of internationalization and its profound impact on academic institutions.
Session 1, led by Dr. Parsons Hail, the Acting Director of the International Affairs Office, focused on the Philippine Internationalization Roadmap. Dr. Hail expounded on the current status of international partnerships and illuminated strategies to forge sustainable collaborations between institutions. This initial session laid the crucial foundation for the discussions that would follow.
Session 2, led by Dr. Emil F. Ubaldo, Head of the International Mobility Unit, delved into the challenges and opportunities surrounding student and faculty mobility. Dr. Ubaldo served as the resource person for this session, providing valuable insights into the metrics essential for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) seeking to enhance their internationalization efforts.
Session 3, under the guidance of Dr. Eden S. David, Chief of the Quality Assurance Office, offered updates on ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) program accreditation. This segment underscored the pivotal role of program accreditation in the internationalization process, shedding light on its significance.
Session 4, led by Dr. Nuelah SJ. Reyes revolved around university library internationalization strategies and compliance with global standards. Dr. Reyes emphasized the critical need for aligning library services with global standards as an integral part of an institution's internationalization efforts.
Following the four informative sessions, the participating deans had the opportunity to calibrate and present their respective internationalization plans for the Academic Affairs Program. This interactive segment allowed for a cross-pollination of ideas among the colleges/units.
In her concluding remarks, VPAA Velasco emphasized the importance of globalization in higher education and encouraged continuous collaboration and innovation in this area.
The Executive Session on Internationalization of the Council of Deans served as a catalyst for the colleges to explore new vistas and strengthen existing international ties. This collaborative effort was a crucial step toward reaching excellence in higher education and developing long-term international collaborations. It demonstrated CLSU’s determination to meet the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly interconnected world.
