Two BSIT students represented Central Luzon State University and competed with other universities in the country during the qualifying round of the ASEAN DSE competition. The Team CLSU Green Cobras composed of Mr. Ralph Laurence Castro and Mr. Noaim Piti-Ilan (contenders), and Mrs. Gemlyn S. Inocencio (coach) submitted a storyboard entitled, “Union & Innovation of Farmers and Fisherfolks: Key to Agri Modernization and Industrialization for a Sustainable ASEAN Nation”. This storyboard will utilize data analytics to uplift the efforts of farmers and fisherfolks to help cushion the impact of the global food crisis. Also to make an education platform and help double the income of farmers and fisherfolks in the Agriculture and AquaCulture sectors of the ASEAN Community.
A panel of judges selected by the Organizer and Co-organizer in its sole discretion reviewed all the eligible entries submitted during the competition period. The entry of CLSU Green Cobras secured a spot in the Top 10, other universities include University of the Philippines (UP Diliman), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), De La Salle University (DLSU), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP), and Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST).
The National Finals will be held on August 23, 2022. The participants will present their output and defend their ideas, strategies and solutions on a particular title or topic. The judging criteria will be 20 percent for data and virtualization, 40 percent for analysis and insight and the remaining 40 percent for the recommendations. The judges are tasked to assess clarity of their delivery with the help of visual aids, also the suitability of the charts used, accuracy of the data, and including the credibility of their references for the 20 percent. The 40 percent for analysis and insight will see how clearly the problem statement is presented, their capability to tell a compelling and engaging story, also how organized and structured the storyboard and graphs are, as well as if the specific UN-SDG targets are specifically stated and the particular characteristics, elements and strategic measures of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community 2025 and ASEAN Economic Community 2025 are declared. Meanwhile, recommendations are proposed on the basis of data analysis. This will determine how creative, feasible, specific, sustainable, original and impactful their recommendations are.
Following the judging criteria, the top 10 finalists will compete for the Top Three who will be awarded trophies and monetary prizes. The top team will represent the Philippines at the ASEAN DSE Regional Finals in Phnom Penh, Cambodia or virtually in October 2022 to compete with the other ASEAN countries.
