The CLSU BS Food Technology program has complied with all policies, standards, and requirements and was recommended to be awarded with a Certificate of Compliance by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).
“Congratulations to everyone, so far you (CLSU) are the first Higher Educational Institute that we had inspected and that had hurdled the inspection with flying colors,” said Honorable Anthony C. Sales, Chairman of the Professional Regulatory Board of Food Technology (PRB-FT) and Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology XI during the closing meeting last March 28.

Also present during the online inspection was Hon. Remedios Baclig, member of PRB-FT and former Vice President for Research and Development of Jollibee Foods Corporation, Dr. Ellen Quinicio, head of Continuing Professional Development Unit of PRC Region III and Dr. Angelita Seeping, Head of Internal Quality Audit section. The areas evaluated were curriculum, faculty, research and community involvement.
Inspection of laboratories and teaching facilities was conducted onsite by Ms. Paula Penilla from PRC Region III.
Food Technology became the newest addition to regulated professions by the PRC, with the signing of Republic Act No. 110521, also known as Philippine Food Technology Act in June 29, 2018 by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
Under this law, the Board of Food Technology is tasked to promulgate, administer, and enforce rules and regulations as well as supervise and regulate the registration, licensure and practice of food technology in the country.
“We are very happy and grateful. This is definitely a milestone for the department,” said Assist. Professor Venus Lagmay, Acting Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology (DFST). “We are committed to continuously improve our program, building on the achievements in the last four decades of our predecessors at the DFST,” she added.
The department will inaugurate in August the Food Innovation and Training Center at CLSU, worth Php 25 Million of building and equipment and a Php 5M R&D facility from the Department of Agriculture Competitiveness Enhancement Fund.
“Looking forward, we shall secure a License to Operate from the Food and Drug Administration so that we and our clients can penetrate the mainstream market. While we are currently active members of the Philippine Association of Food Technologists, we are eyeing for membership in the Institute of Food Technologists (USA) and International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST). In a few years, we hope to offer a Master of Science in Food Science program and enrich and bring our Food Analytical Laboratory to international standards and be a hub for innovative food research and testing in the region,” shared Prof. Lagmay.
