The online conference, which was scheduled to take place six (6) Sundays in a row, began on November 13, 2022, and would continue until December 18, 2022.
“During our discussion group on environmental protection, we talked about the most pressing environmental issue in every country in Southeast Asia. I think that this part of the program helps me understand more about our environment and how we as youth must take action to protect it if we want to have a better environment in the future,” Torres elaborates on what he has learned so far at the conference.
SSEAYP, organized by the Japanese government's Office for International Youth Exchange within the Cabinet Office and with the support of ten Southeast Asian countries, aims to foster greater understanding and friendship between the ASEAN Member States (AMS) and Japan's young leaders through a variety of exchange opportunities, leadership training, and practical skill building.
Besides broadening the youth’s worldview, this program also seeks to help them develop a spirit of international cooperation. “I also learned that youth play an important role in creating a safe space for everyone in every country. Additionally, I also got to know more about COP27, which tackles environmental protection and preservation,” he adds.
Undeniably, the youth of CLSU remain steadfast and resilient even with the upheaval and adversity brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. By participating in conferences like this, Dan Paul Aaron Torres resolves to reach new heights and serves as a force for positive change.
